We think of Maurice Fulton as a conjurer of mass hysteria on the dancefloor: Throw in the bongo-funk-bleep of Syclops’ “Jump Bugs” and the crowd will go bonkers. Amazingly bonkers for such a complex, off-kilter production. But then again it’s a whirlwind of a track: witty, rushy, suspense-ladden and sparkling with ideas. There’s nothing slapdash or haphazard in this mad-capped tour de force: This is pure rhythmical wizardry. It’s what marks out the man from Baltimore as one of dance music’s most inspired protagonists. No regrets, Mr. Fulton!
